The culturally enriched state of Gujarat also boasts of some highly significant places steeped in great spirituality. The state is dotted with numerous temples, each of which has uniqueness in terms of religious importance, mythical importance, and architectural beauty. Some of the most famous temples of Gujarat are-

1- Somnath Temple

Somnath temple is a famed Lord Shiva temple in the Prabhas patan of Veraval; Saurashtra. It is an ancient shore temple dedicated to Lord Somnath [Lord Shiva] and is one of the 12 revered Shiva jyotirlingas that our country has. As per myths Moon god Som was blessed by Lord Shiva and made curse-free. At this spot and out of gratitude he had built a temple in honor of the lord.

2- Dwarkadheesh Temple

Dwarkadheesh Temple is dedicated to lord Krishna in his royal avatar; i.e. ‘king of Dwarka’. The temple is one of the revered Chardham of the India Chardham circuit and is also one of the most auspicious ‘Sapta Puris’ of the Hindus. As per myths Dwarka had been Lord Krishna’s kingdom in the yesteryears and this temple had been built by Krishna’s grandson, Vajranabha upon the original residence of lord Krishna. The temple is situated in Gujarat’s Dwarka and the lord here is referred to as ‘Nageshwar’; i.e. meaning ‘lord of snakes’. It is believed that one who visits this temple and gets the blessings of the lord gets rid of the poison of a snake bite easily.

7- Bahuchara Mata temple

Bahuchara Mata temple falls within Gujarat’s Mehsana district. The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Bahuchara ji who is the Hijra community’s much revered patroness.

8- Jalaram Bapa Temple

The temple of Jalaram Bapa is dedicated to Saint Jalaram, one of the most revered saints of Gujarat. Each year scores of disciples of Jalaram Bapu gather at the temple on the occasion of Jalaram Jayanti; i.e. the birth anniversary of Jalaram Bapu which usually takes place around the Kartikeya Shukla Paksha.

10- Ambaji Temple

The temple of Ambaji belongs to Goddess Arasuri Amba who is but a manifestation of Ma Shakti. The temple is made out of white marble and exhibits golden Shikharas adorned with fluttering red flags. The temple is decked up most gorgeously during the Navratri festival.
