Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand

The gorgeous, astonishing, and best natural beauty of the world called the “Valley of Flowers” is situated near Joshimath town in Chamoli district in the state Uttarakhand of India. Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand is a National Park of flowers that covers an area of about 100 square km at a height of about 3500 m from the sea level. Valley of Flowers is also declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. These beautiful flowers cover an enormous area and seem amazing. When the monsoon comes, the beauty of this valley boosts with gorgeous alpine flowers and other floras that grow naturally.

With the beautiful flora, a large number of different faunas are also available at Valley of flowers national park. In a variety of faunas snow leopard is the main piece of attraction. Other animals in the Nanda devi national park are brown bears, deer, hyenas, blue ship, cheetahs, nilgai, and many more.

A large number of tourists come here every day and enjoy watching the natural beauty of flowers and animals in the park. This is the amazing spot between the Himalayas and Zanskar. This national park is bounded by evergreen forests with lots of valleys and waterfalls that augmented the beauty of the park. Snow-covered mountains and glaciers also increased the attractiveness of this valley mainly during monsoons.

Frank S. Smyth found the Valley of Flowers in 1931 with his colleagues and also wrote a book on this valley and its flowers called “Valley of Flowers”. Some famous flowers of this valley are Brahma kamal, alpines, Cobra lily, and Blue poppy. With the variety of flowers, a large number of spices and herbs are found in this valley. This is also the best place for botanicals and it is also called a Botanic Garden. According to the Hindu religion, in Great Ramayana, Shree Ram sent Hanuman to get Sanjivani Booti (herb) for Laxamana and according to mythology this valley is the “valley of flowers”.

Hemkund Lake is another nearby spot of attraction enclosed by the seven crests, these crests are covered by white snow and look beautiful. This lake is also a consecrated place for Hindus. Many pilgrims come here every year. The preeminent time for a holiday in the Valley of Flowers is in the initial monsoon between July-August. The maximum temperature during this season is 17 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature is 6 degree Celsius. At that time, the park looks pretty amazing. Also, enjoy the trekking among Alpines, which is typical in snowfall. Horse trekking is also available in the park for children. Valley of Flowers is also on the list of the top seven natural wonders of the World.

There is no availability for accommodation and foodstuffs in Valley of Flowers. In Ghangharia (3 km from the park) and Joshimath town (35 km from the park) various hotels and restaurants for accommodation and food are available at the proper rate.

How to Reach

The nearest Airport to the Valley of Flowers is Dehradun Airport, which is just 295 km away that connects to all the main cities of India. Rishikesh Railway Junction is the nearest junction, which is 276 km far away from the valley. Many taxis and buses are available for Valley of Flowers from both Dehradun and Rishikesh. By road, the valley is direct connected to Govind Ghat, which is just 13km away.
