India has always been a land of adventure and excitement. It
remains one of the most enticing, mysterious, and intriguing countries in the
world. Rapid modernization mixed with an ancient enlightened culture creates
one of the most mesmerising countries the world can offer. There are so many
things to see and do in the country from the infamous Taj Mahal to the
foothills of the Himalayas. These attractions are all well documented but today
we’re going to look at a really different and exciting side to an Indian
holiday – boating trips for the festival of lights – Diwali.
Diwali, the festival of lights is a popular Indian festival
celebrated with great pomp and show; and plenty of Indians living in foreign
countries work hard to spread the joy of this festival in whichever country
they are currently residing in, even if they cannot make it to their home
country. The aim of this festival is to spread the spirit of brotherhood to
everyone around them, so it is no surprise that Indians invite their non-Indian
friends to join in the celebration. The Festival of lights is a 5-day Hindu
festival and is a time for family, friends, and celebration. If you have Indian
friends this makes it a great opportunity to really experience their culture.
But if you don’t know need to worry. As a celebration of the spirit of
brotherhood, you will find local Indians at their warmest and most inviting.
Then you have the vast fireworks displays and the Diwali lanterns floating off
into the sky as well as beautiful candle displays and colorful Rangoli
decorations.
No matter what your religion is and what beliefs you follow,
getting together with your friends and relatives on this magnificent day is so
exciting and charming because you can enjoy the wonderful array of lights
everywhere. The aura and the positive energy emanating from these houses
attract hundreds of thousands of people belonging to every nationality. So why, with so much going on, do we
recommend hiring a boat for the festival? The best reason is that you will get
a unique view of the thousands of lights, lanterns, and fireworks floating on
the river soaking up the atmosphere. You can sit off the coast in a yacht
enjoying the magnificence of the displays or cruise the banks of the Ganges in
a traditional houseboat enjoying the floating lanterns, the fireworks, and the
magical ambiance that pervades every aspect of India for these 5 days. Diwali
boats are decked out in all the great light displays and colours of the
celebrations and a boating holiday at this time of year really does give you
the most unique way to experience this wonder of the world.
However, we also realize that not everyone can make it to
India for the festival – flights are still expensive to India and this is a
very popular time to travel. Thankfully there are celebrations all over the
world to celebrate this incredibly important festival. Some of the biggest
celebrations take place in the Caribbean and, perhaps surprisingly, in the UK.
In Trinidad and Tobago, there are theatre shows, light displays, fireworks, and
huge feasts to celebrate the festival. In London, there are river cruises
specially put on for the festival and a giant, lively celebration in Trafalgar
Square. There are firework displays and celebrations all over the world but
nowhere as incredible as India itself.
